Ally exit prompts reshuffle of Albanian cabinet

TIRANA (Albania), April 4 (SeeNews) – Albanian prime minister Sali Berisha has submitted to president Bujar Nishani proposals for changes in his cabinet's lineup, the government said.

The move was prompted by the decision of the Socialist Integration Movement (LSI), junior partner in Albania's ruling coalition, to pull its three ministers from the government ahead of general elections to be held on June 23.

Berisha has nominated Florjon Mima to take the post of minister of economy, trade and energy, Aldo Bumci is put forth to take the post of minister of foreign affairs, Visar Zhiti is set to take over the post of minister of tourism, culture, youth and sports, and Halim Kosova should step in as minister of health, a statement posted on the government’s website on Wednesday showed.

Berisha’s Democratic Party (PD), which won half of the 140 seats in the unicameral Albanian parliament in 2009 elections, entered an alliance with left-wing LSI of Ilir Meta. The alliance had 74 seats in parliament.
